![]() ![]() He isn't smart enough to go and read the note on his chest or ask someone or fold himself in a way that he could read it, etc. Conquering Peach's castle is a feat that pretty much everyone can do. And is proactive twice in the whole game.Īnd if you want yo say that Olly is competent he isn't. Olly isn't likeable, the most relatable thing of him is the toad meme. Normally you want your characters to be Competent, Proactive or Likeable, even villains. Their motivations aren't necessarily relatable, we probably don't agree with them, but they are strong sources of conflict that test the heroes values and ideals. The dark night Joker is a perfect example of them. Motivations that contrast with the heroes values. But as a threat, the legion of stationary do a way better job without Olly. Olly appears for one moment to try to stop you, and it kinda hurts. Everyone hates him, but he is irrelevant in the end. Olly is the equivalent of the guy in school who insults everyone, but never goes beyond insulting. Olly isn't a threat, he is a foil to Olivia for sure, and he does 1 thing to build the story forward. Heroes are memorable but villains transcend that. A good villain is a foil to the heroes, he is a constant threat and builds the story forward. I mean, don't get me wrong, anything beats freaking mute Bowser or Shadow Queen (that's just my opinion, chill ttyd fans), but he could've been so much more! And because of that, Olly falls short as a villain. If he questioned himself and his motives more throughout the story, then perhaps we'd be able to see him more as how they wanted us to see him: lost and misguided.īut none of these things came to be. This kind of ties in with the other three reasons, but have him show quips of remorse throughout the story instead of basically only at the very end.Maybe make it so that he was taken over by a curse or something, that would make his pathetic excuse of a motive more sensical. Destroying a kingdom over a GODDAMN SCRIBBLE? Even Olivia mentions how insane that is. Now, I understand that Olly is a perfectionist, and perfectionists make huge deals over tiny things, but come on. Give him some sort of better backstory. This would provide more character interaction, and would not only develop Olly's character, but Olivia's as well. Have him try to interfere with Mario's plans more, instead of just that one time at that one place. This would give more insight into his motives and his character throughout the story, and we'd also get to see more of Peach, instead of having her appear a whopping three times in the whole story. Add Castle interludes after clearing a streamer, where Olly interacts with Origami Peach and perhaps the Legion of Stationery. Here's four things they could've done that could've made him a villain as good as if not better than Count Bleck: Can't really learn whether we should absolutely despise him or feel bad for him, like we did with, say, Count Bleck. Before the final area, we only see him like once or twice, and can't really get to know him as a character. Sure, he definitely feels menacing, dangerous, and very very twisted and evil, but there's so much that could've been done better with him. ![]()
